A cardboard template is cut to use as a pattern. Cutting this out of wood directly would take more time than is necessary. Cutting a simple template is worth the $2 that we spent on the chip board used in this installation.

We have precut the ring that we will use for our subwoofer, and use the sub and ring to test fit the desired area for clearance and overall fit. Just as expected, the sub will not clear the back panel.

After countless measuring and final trim cuts, our box and ring are permanently glued and nailed together. Notice the notches for the front and rear panels cut to allow a secure seating of the sub ring and the support board that will aid in supporting the weight of the 12-inch sub.

While the fiberglass can be made very solid, we opted to add in an additional panel to strengthen the area around the magnet and fill in the back wall. The cut-out allows the clearance the magnet requires.
