In this month's Shop Talk or building tour, we stopped in to visit the good folks at Lokar of Knoxville, Tennessee. While talking to them, we realized that for over two decades now, Lokar has earned a reputation as one of the auto industry's leading companies by manufacturing products of the highest quality, exceeding industry standards, raising the bar for quality products and leading the way for a better automotive aftermarket design products.
Far removed from the company's early beginnings in California, Lokar has evolved to become a giant in the automotive world by manufacturing parts for several street rods, muscle cars, and our favorite—the lowriders. It is Lokar's steadfast belief that being able to stamp "Made in the USA," on their products is the key that sets them apart from the others. Being able to stay American-made is no easy feat in this day and age, either. For companies focused solely on their bottom line, it would be easy to stray from that belief; given the state of the economy and the ever-increasing foreign influences, but American Made is the foundation of Lokar, and they continue to stand by it.
At any given time, you can see the company's factory operation running full steam, with CNC machines whirring and proud workers efficiently producing many of the billet needs auto builders desire for their projects. From the shifters that they are known for to the new series of products within Lokar's Midnight Series, the results speak for themselves. In addition to those products, the Black Stainless Steel Housing Line is also of top-notch quality, including transmission and engine dipsticks, throttle cables, kickdowns, and matching mounting brackets. These black stainless steel housing options have everyone excited, and the line provides new options for vehicles of all types.
While our friend, Brian Downard, was giving us our tour, he described in detail how the business has grown thanks to the support of Lokar's loyal customers—past, present and future—who have believed in the company's products since their West Coast beginnings. When you call them for info on a product or see them at a show, let them know that you read about them in Lowrider as they deliver on their promise to continue serving you with quality—plain and simple.
