Today, we are going to get ready to tow but not before swapping out our rotors and brake pads. We stopped off at Sal's Canoga Brake & Tire Center of Canoga, CA, as Sal specializes in braking. After letting him know that we needed to update our brakes on our project tow truck, he recommended using EBC brakes. He felt that these would be ideal for us to use whenever we hauled our projects with our Ford F150. EBC Brakes produce the largest range of brake pads and brake discs in the world, with over 5000 part numbers for every type of moving vehicle. With modern trends towards cheap imported brake pads and brake rotors, EBC Brakes leads the world in its technology, quality control, product performance and customer service. The company's product range includes brake pads for cars, trucks and SUV, brake rotors (brake discs) for every rolling vehicle on the planet, and even brake pads for wind farms, military applications such as the Humvee, various armored cars and tanks, railway brake products and all kinds of industrial vehicle brakes. Simply put, if EBC brakes are good enough to stop an armored vehicle, then their brake pads are definitely good enough to stop a truck and loaded trailer. Now follow along, as Sal, of Sal's Canoga Brake and Tire Center, replaces the pads on this project hauler.

Towing Brake Upgrade BFM Wheels

1. These BFM 20-inch wheels needed to be taken off to access the stock brakes.

Towing Brake Upgrade Brake System

2. This brake system was ready to be upgraded. We choose EBC Yellowstuff and EBC Sport Rotor Kit as this duo will help you stop your vehicle better than these stock rotor and brake combo.

Towing Brake Upgrade Caliper

3. We pulled off the wheel and started to remove the caliper. The caliper should come right off once the two bolts are removed.

Towing Brake Upgrade Justice Brothers Lithium Grease

4. We used some Justice Brothers lithium grease to lube up the mounts where the pads rested.

Towing Brake Upgrade Pads

5. We just added a touch of grease to keep our pads from squeaking when driving.

Towing Brake Upgrade Caliper Piston

6. The caliper piston was pushed back.

Towing Brake Upgrade EBC Pads

7. We were now ready to start installing the EBC Yellowstuff Truck and SUV Performance Brake pads as they were lubed to avoid squeaking and chattering while braking.

Towing Brake Upgrade Brake Pad

8. With built-in clips, the brake pad locked into the caliper.

Towing Brake Upgrade Pad Difference

9. You can see the difference from the stock pads to the EBC pads that have more braking pad. Yellowstuff is especially appreciated on Trucks for towing and heavy loads and where wheel and tire oversize upgrades have been fitted.

Towing Brake Upgrade Rotor Comparison

10. The EBC rotors were compared to the stock one to assure that fitment was correct.

Towing Brake Upgrade Protective Coating Cleaning

11. When we got in contact with EBC we were instructed to wash off the protective coating used for shelf life. With a little bit of brake cleaner and elbow grease, the rotors were cleaned.

Towing Brake Upgrade Rotor

12. The rotor went on with out a problem. EBC sport rotor actually draw cool air under the pad during heavy braking and reduce brake temperatures while also helping remove dirt, dust and debris and gasses created by heavy braking from the pad contact area. They also improve braking in off road conditions of wet, mud or sand and as such are a great choice for 4x4 vehicles.

Towing Brake Upgrade Rotor

13. Sal made sure that the rotor was on right. EBC Discs are directional “LEFT and RIGHT”. The spotted pattern and the sweeping grooves should be pointing to the rear of the vehicle.

Towing Brake Upgrade Caliber Assembly

14. The caliper was ready to be assembled.

Towing Brake Upgrade Clips

15. The built-in clips kept the pad in place.

Towing Brake Upgrade Caliper Tightening

16. Sal tightened up the calipers and moved onto the front of the truck.

Towing Brake Upgrade Stock Front Rotor

17. This stock front rotor slipped off easily, once it was wiggled off.

Towing Brake Upgrade Stock Pads

18. When we pulled off the stock pads, we realized that the stock pads had already cracked and could have caused a serious problem if we would have towed our vehicle.

Towing Brake Upgrade Dual Pistons

19. With the dual pistons closed, the caliper was ready for brake pads.

Towing Brake Upgrade Caliper Bracket

20. While bolting on the caliper bracket, you could see the quality of the rotor as it also made a huge visual difference.

Towing Brake Upgrade Front Pads

21. The front pads were locked in place.

Towing Brake Upgrade Front Calipers

22. The front calipers were on and ready to stop.

Towing Brake Upgrade Ford F150

23. This quick upgrade will give you a new look and better performance as the slotted and drilled rotors give you better stopping power for your ride.

Towing Brake Upgrade Rotor Directions

24. As you can see some of the benefits on these rotors include these arrows to show us which direction they needed to go on.

25. These rotors accented the wheels, but most importantly, made sure to stop us when we are towing our lowrider. We have done brake upgrades in the past but this EBC combo was the easiest that we have done in a long time as everything bolts right up. In fact we did the upgrade in less than one hour without the use of any power tools.
