In today's Resto Section, we hung out with Lee from Powder Coating Specialties of Commerce, CA., and got to talking about some of the advantages of powder coating. What is powder coating? It is a dry powder utilized in paint jobs and it offers one huge upside in comparison to traditional liquid paint. Unlike conventional liquids, powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a suspended form. Instead, the powder coating is typically applied with current electricity, which will magnetize the powder as it is being applied, allowing it to attach itself to the surface. It then cures under heat to form a skin that turns into a hard finish which is much tougher than conventional paint. Powder coating is mainly used for the coating of metals, automobile and bicycle parts.

Powder Coating Specialties has been around for over 15 years, offering experience and price ranges suitable for any job's budget - from chassis to fenders. They also have multi-media blasting materials available to suite your requirements; they offer a full line of powder coating colors and textures, including candy colors, clear coating, and metallic colors. They provide services to the commercial industry, as well as to the general public. Blasting and powder coating of wrought iron fencing, patio furniture, lighting fixtures, underground pipe, and structural components make up but a few of the unique projects they specialize in.

The newer technology in this arena has allowed us to get custom colors that were once thought to be impossible. Now you can have a candy red, green, and even an oriental blue and have it turned around in 24 hours; depending on your powder coating provider. It has also allowed other surfaces to be powder coated including MDF boards, which years ago would have been considered impossible to do. No job is too big or too small for this shop! Now follow along, as the pros at Powder Coating Specialties show us how they can turn the old into the new with a protective powder coating.
