Collectors Choice owner Cesar Lozano has been collecting all kinds of toys, figures, hot wheels and baseball cards since he was a kid. After collecting so many things over the years, he was forced to start selling some of his prized collections in order to make space for the new stuff he wanted to purchase. At a young age, Cesar began selling some of the stuff in his personal collection in the Santa Fe Springs Swap Meet. Through this experience, he found out that he could make money doing something he loved and enjoyed, and this pivotal moment in his life would ultimately shape his career focus.
After a couple of successful years dealing at the Swap Meet, he opened up a small store called Collectors Choice in the Compton Fashion Center in 1995. The store was very busy right off the bat, so he hired his nephews Firmin, Alex, and Frankie, who helped him during the weekends and their summer vacations. During that time, Cesar began travelling with his girlfriend to all the Lowrider Magazine tour stops. "It was hard since we had to drive to all of the events, including Miami and Chicago, but it was a great experience and it helped us get a lot of national wholesale accounts," Cesar recalls. A new aspect of business opened up for him, thanks to his networking and keen market sense. After traveling with the tour for a few years, he witnessed the skyrocketing popularity of the Homies Figurines, and he struck up a deal to become the only distributor for the line. Creator of the Homies Line, David Gonzales, gave the toy line's wholesale rights to Cesar after the two agreed upon business terms. David and Cesar began working together on more projects, and Cesar soon became a full time consultant for the Homies Line, as well as with the Linberg Company, who created the Homie Hoppers. When Cesar started to consult with Linberg, they were using stock colors and hubcaps. He was the creative force behind the second line of Homie Hoppers, which came with custom paintjobs, wire rims, and white walls. Besides the Homies Line, Cesar's company is a distributor for Hot Wheels, Mattel, Jada Toys, Maisto, Rebell, and many others.
What was once a hobby has now become a career, proving that if you have a passion for something in this country, you can find a way to make a living off of it. Thanks to the constant demand for quality toys, Cesar stays busy in his warehouse and travels to many toy expos, all the while remaining a great supporter of the LRM tours. We would like to thank Collectors Choice for supporting LRM for the past fifteen years. To purchase some collectors items please visit them at www.stores.ebay.com/collectorschoicetoys-hobbiesinc.
