Egge Six-Cylinder Build Part Two - Tech Project

Armor Plating This Classic Engine

By , Photography by

As we mentioned before, the engine is going to have Egge components for the internals of the block. Here we're installing the Egge cam bearings onto the machined engine block and getting the connecting rods balanced to keep the vibration down to a minimum once the engine is complete.

  • Six Cylinder Build Installing Plugs
Using a socket close to the size of the freeze plug ID being installed will help the plug to go in straight and prevent leaks.

  • Six Cylinder Build Bead Blasted
A few of the parts were bead blasted to remove any surface rust that might have been left after being heat pressure washed.

  • Six Cylinder Build New Freeze Plugs
The new freeze plugs were tapped in one at a time.
  • Six Cylinder Build Washing Bolts
The bolts received a quick bead blasting and also a cleaning.
  • Six Cylinder Build Honing Out Connecting Rods
The connecting rods were all honed out individually.
  • Six Cylinder Build Weighing Rods
Each rod was weighed until the desired weight was reached.
  • Six Cylinder Build Engine Stand
Edson prepared the engine to put it on an engine stand.
  • Six Cylinder Build Removing Debris
Edson grinded, or re-surfaced, the crank to remove any burs or debris that it might have.
  • Six Cylinder Build Balancing Out Crank
The connecting rod tops were all resurfaced.
  • Six Cylinder Build Honing Rods
As the rods are getting honed out they need to be measured to keep them as close as they need to be to each other.
