Lowrider Magazine is dedicating an issue to our military troops and their lowriders.

As announced in the May issue of Lowrider, we're proud to be involved in the Castrol Syntec Top Shop Challenge. This challenge will be taking place between the following Source Interlink magazines: Eurotuner, Import Tuner, Modified, Sport Compact Car, Super Street, Turbo and, your favorite, Lowrider Magazine. The purpose of this challenge is to see who can build the best engine that can work for the magazine market.

It feels like it was just yesterday that we were at the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas, Nevada, and here we are, at it again and running through the halls of the biggest automotive convention in the automotive industry. The preparation, the parties, the gambling, the strip clubs; it didn't feel like a week, it felt like two days. The SEMA show just keeps getting bigger and if you stop at any time you're going to miss a few things.

You've seen his bobblehead and coloring book, you might have seen him perform at a Lowrider Magazine Tour stop, and you've probably even used his hot sauce. You know that we can only be talking about the one and only Chingo Bling.

Juan AKA "Juanito El Wizard" P. Zamarripa was born and raised in Leon Guanajuato, Mexico. Juanito started to work at an upholstery shop back in '86 after he moved to the States in search of the "American dream." Juanito began his career and learning the tricks of the trade at a time that many people say was the high point of the Lowrider Movement.

It's not every day that you get to travel to some faraway place to do what you love, so this past March, when Fabian "Candy Man" Villarreal from Corpus Christi, Texas, was offered the chance to fly to Germany to finish a custom paint job, he jumped on it. Candy Man flew into Dusseldorf, where he met up with a German Rollerz Only C.C. member, also named Fabian, who owned a clean '64 Chevy Impala that was already straightened out and painted with a blue basecoat. Candy Man's job was to complete a one-of-a-kind flaked and patterned-out candy paint job in just five days!

Three years ago, Lowrider Magazine established the Lowrider Hall of Fame (LHoF) to recognize and honor on an annual basis, individuals who have made a difference in the Lowrider Movement. All LHoF inductees are chosen for their individual achievement and/or a positive role in the lowrider lifestyle, sport and culture throughout history. The LHoF only acknowledges individuals with a minimum of 20 years involvement in some aspect of the Lowrider Movement.

Most great artists aren't appreciated until after they're gone and their work becomes priceless. Mario Gomez was one of those artists who was appreciated during his lifetime, at least by those in the know. Mario, who recently passed away at age 54 due to a brain aneurysm, lived a humble lifestyle and loved painting, which is why he did what he did. It was never about the big money for this SoCal automotive paint master.

Straight from the streets of Los Angeles, California, come two of the hottest new talents in the market, Big Syphe and Eric D-Lux. This dynamic duo has been making a huge noise on both the radio airwaves and DJ circuit since joining the Power 106 family just a few short years ago. With their raw, up-beat and straight from the streets personalities, these energetic 22-year-olds have quickly become fan favorites.

We're excited about the response to our recent Mailbox redesign, which is intended to provide even more of a showcase for our readers' beloved rides. We are welcoming multiple photographs of a single vehicle, highlighting areas that may have previously remained hidden. Got a new interior to go with that hot paint job? The music started for Marco Cardenas AKA MC Magic at an early age. The disc jockey grew up in a low-income housing area in Avondale, Arizona, and got involved in the local scene. From break dancing to sponsoring teen dances at the Avondale Community Center, Magic always surrounded himself with music.
