The event brought in lowriders from throughout the San Joaquin Valley and beyond. With Tucson having the second largest population in Arizona, it's only appropriate that one of the handful of Lowrider Magazine-sanctioned shows would be held there. Big Latin Entertainment put on the Second Annual Lowrider & Custom Car Show in conjunction with sponsors HOT 98.3, Spanglish Times, Latina TV Network, Latin Active Entertainment and the U.S. Army.

The only East Coast Lowrider Tour stop of the year at Tampa's Florida State Fairgrounds was a big success. The show sponsored by UTI and Phearless Records went off without a glitch. The show featured about 300 of the East Coast's cleanest rides, all coming out to show and shine on that sunny Spring weekend.

Mesa Contemporary Arts, the City of Mesa's contemporary art museum, at Mesa Arts Center along with our partners and sponsors, Budweiser, Motorsport Showcase LLC, Lowrider Magazine, Juxtapoz Magazine and Power and Edge Radio are proud to present, Low and Slow: The "Art" of the Lowrider exhibition and related events. This special gallery exhibition will feature the works of Lowrider Artists Mister Cartoon, OG Able, Bugs (Efrin) Gonzales, Danny D., Mike Pikel and contemporary painters MAC, Sandow Birk, Charles "Chaz" Bojorquez, Ben Beshaw and Vincent Valdez all creating artworks on car hoods. The exhibition also includes Estevan Oriol's photographs and Mister Cartoon's customized 1979 Monte Carlo from Lifestyle Car Club.

Ah, another year of the Lowrider Tour and that means another year of hop and dance competitors battling it out in the hopping pit. With just six stops on the official Tour this year, it's going to be tougher than ever to qualify, and head hop judge Bret Kopitz, along with Raul Gomez and Dave Harkins, will have their hands full.

The West Texas showdown in Odessa, Texas, is absolutely the most exciting and grandest show of them all in the Lone Star State. The 36th annual event in November wrapped up the 2007 show season fittingly. The lowriding affair was a significant success thanks in part to O'Reilly Auto Parts, Cable One, Malholtra Lawfirm, CBS 7, B93, Medical Center Hospital, Kent Companies, Nuestra Cultura, Univision and Bajito Body Shop.

If you know "Crazy George" and "Lobo," the founders of Viejitos Car Club, you know that the club's traditions are still alive and well when it comes to gatherings and family events. This year, the club held their 12th Annual Valentine's Dance in Chino, California, an event that began way back in 1995. The Viejitos Valentine's Dance was started as a way to bring together the club's different chapters and for club members to celebrate with their significant other. The Dance is also a great way to get different car clubs together to party and socialize.

All are welcomed to join Latin Kustoms C.C. and Last Minute Customs as they throw their 1st annual Chill & Grill show and picnic on June 29, 2008 in Houston, Texas.

As announced in the May issue of Lowrider, we're proud to be involved in the Castrol Syntec Top Shop Challenge. This challenge will be taking place between the following Source Interlink magazines: Eurotuner, Import Tuner, Modified, Sport Compact Car, Super Street, Turbo and, your favorite, Lowrider Magazine. The purpose of this challenge is to see who can build the best engine that can work for the magazine market.

Chariot Ministry is a group of car enthusiasts of all ages "walking in Christ" with two areas of common interest: Christianity and cars. The organization was founded by Steve Gonzales, who was strongly associated with the Lowrider Movement back in the day. Old school homies may remember Steve's '50 Mercury, "Strictly Business," from the June '79 issue of Lowrider.

A beautiful November Sunday set the scene for the first annual Oldies C.C.-SFV Holiday Toy Drive at Brewline Coffee in San Fernando, California. The finest car clubs and solo riders from all over Southern California showed up to support the event and to help make a child's Holiday special.

Para El BarrioThe world-famous "Shorty" Villareal of Shorty's Hydraulics of Houston, Texas, and Latin Fantasy Car Club celebrated Christmas with their 16th annual Jugetes Para El Barrio Christmas day toy delivery drive. Latin Fantasy C.C. and Shorty's Hydraulics throw local car shows to raise money for a good cause. Every year, Shorty raises up to five "Gs" to purchase all kinds of toys for the less fortunate.

For many clubs, it's not only about building cars and cruising, but also about giving back to the community. The way that many clubs do that is through toy drives during the Christmas holiday season and Rollerz Only C.C. is one of them.

Well, let's go to the beginning 35 years ago. at the start of the new school year in 1972 at schurr high in Montebello, california. Roland ortiz, and aaron and alonzo quintana were thinking about joining a car club. They checked out a few, but couldn't find what they were looking for in any of the clubs at that time. They decided to start their own club instead. They thought about a name but it had to be meaningful. They pondered and came up with the name of Techniques. They looked it up in Webster's dictionary and the defi- nition is "show you how." next, they had some jackets and some brass oG plaques made.
