On May 24th, 2009, Socios Car Club hosted their 7th annual car show, which showcased nearly 600 of the culture's greatest Lowriders. The amount of entries for the Socios car show should come as no surprise, as this annual event is rapidly becoming one of the biggest car shows in Northern California. This show has been held on Memorial Day weekend since the club's inaugural event, which took place in Woodland, CA. Due to the overwhelming support the event has received from the Lowriding community, the show had to be moved to a bigger venue in the capitol city of Sacramento, CA. Socios prides themselves in keeping their events diverse, while still centering the primary focus of the activities around family and Lowriding competitions. This year's event was no different, and it featured an amazing display of culture.
Aztec Dancers gave the crowd a special welcome routine, and the spectators were treated to some great music that was played throughout the day. Over 5,000 spectators walked through the aisles, as some of California's best cars were on display. Uce Car Club went home with the most awards, as they earned over 20 trophies, while Nokturnal Car Club was not far behind, with 19. The Furthest Distance Award went to a beautiful '59 Impala, which represented the Imperials Car Club of El Paso, Texas. Many local car clubs had a strong showing, including the Lolystics, Family First, Compadres, Impalas, as did many other clubs and solo riders. The Bay area didn't play either, bringing out heavy hitters like Grande Car Club, Luxurious, Bay Bombs and others, who made the trip to Sacramento to represent. Enthusiasts also represented the Central Valley, Southern California, and Nevada.
Socios car club would like to thank all the participants that have shown their support throughout the years. Socios Club President, Gabriel Mijares, would like to send a special thanks to all of the members for their hard work and dedication.
Good Times Car Club
20th Anniversary Event
In 1989, some very notable and world-changing events took place within society and pop culture; each event having their own unique effect on life as we know it. Motorola introduced the MicroTAC, which was the world's smallest cellular phone at the time. The television show Seinfeld debuted in this year, and the video game industry giant Sega released its breakthrough console, the Genesis, in North America. 1989 was also the year that life changed forever for three worthy Lowrider enthusiasts. It was in this year, that Good Times Car Club was formed by Paul Sanchez, his brother Jesse "Papo" Sanchez and their good friend, Beto Montenegro.
Good Times Car Club was formed in the mini truck era, and as the years went by, the club transformed into a traditional Lowrider club. Since the early days when the first chapter was introduced, Good Times has expanded and created other chapters of the club throughout the United States. This past July, Good Times members from all over the U.S. converged on the Los Angeles area to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the club.
