This album definitely illuminates Ms. Jackson's career to the max. It marks the first time that Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produced for Janet, after her move from Minneapolis to Los Angeles. As a result to her move, the album reflects the reputation of Los Angeles being a bright and vibrant city. Her hardcore beats have been melted into a melancholy, lukewarm pudding that when heard, creates a warm feeling, inside and out. Janet also worked with Jermaine Dupri, who helped co-produce the anticipated record. With 20 Y.O., his goal was to make it sound like "an old Human League record," which means that his vision was to create a record that displayed some new yet old ideas, which definitely worked to Ms. Janet's advantage. This album is definitely marked as hot! Back to Article
