Some of the  rap/urban culture degrades women and calls them derogatory names. Why would anyone woman want to promote that worldwide.  There is a lot of violence associated in  that culture in the U.S. Remember what happened with Tupac and B.I.G.  They're both dead now. Remember what happened to Jennifer Lopez when she dated a hip hop star. She had to flea a hip hop club shoot out and run for cover in a car. She could have been shot with a bullet meant for someone else just for being at the wrong place at the wrong time.  Since she's felt that circle she no longer has that issue.

Some rappers try to be more positive.   Hip hop culture has two sides, however like most things the negative  always out weighs the good.

I don't believe that wearing urban or hip hop clothing will change anything. It won't change the perceptions that has taken decades to root itself into the minds of white society and Blacks who are good hard working people.  There is nothing anyone can say to families murdered and victimized  by people of this hip hop culture that gangs usually gravitate to. A magazine will never change their perception. They would never bother to pick up those types of magazines.  The type of attire one wears can make or not make someone a target for violence, and police brutality.  I think that dressing with sagging pants ect. puts youth  in danger of police brutality, profiling and hinders them from getting jobs most of the time.  Lack of jobs equals crime to obtain money.

Due to racism hundreds of years ago, and the gangs created in L.A. that branched out to other cities murdering each other and innocent people, police will always be an issue to anyone dressing in gangster, urban or hip hop culture attire. They have a negative perception deep seeded that will never change. Too much has happened and anyone associated with that culture will get caught in the cross fire. Being white doesn't exempt someone from harms way.  Whites that dress that way usually become outcasts in upper white society. I've been told by white men that they would never date a white woman that's been with a Black man for a number of reasons.

I for one, enjoy hip hop music, but when the music degrades women I tune out. There are so many talented artists that need to take their platform and use it to push respect for self, family, and women. Unfortunately, most are pushing violence and sex in a world that sleeping with the wrong person can be deadly. Some youth may not have the sense to protect themselves. They just emulate whatever they hear in the music. Bottom line is, a person can be great and wonderful, but society judges people on the outside first.
