The rapper's back with some heat that's elevating his game to an entirely new level.
With his first single, "On Some Real Sh*t," already in heavy rotation, Daz is back swangin' the damn thangs and turning up the heat. He's literally on some other level and the music that you'll be hearing and the videos that you'll be seeing from him are nothing like you've ever seen... or expected from him.
Daz's back and elevating his game, and what's even better is that he's matured not only as a rapper, but as a businessman, producer and individual. He's invested heavily into the business side of the game, and his eagerness to push his name and his product even has him blasting down the Internet superhighway.
And with the release of his album So So Gangsta on September 12, it'll be no time before Daz puts West Coast gangster rap back on the map. We got a chance to catch up with Daz and this is what he had to say. A special thanks to Marlene Meraz for making this interview possible.
LRM: When's the new album droppin' and how do you feel about it?
Daz: September 12 on Virgin Records and So So Def and Dogg Pound. I can't get too excited. I gotta keep level-headed and keep doing what I do. It's gonna be good, though.
LRM: Who's on it? What can we expect?
Daz: Rick Ross, my cousin Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Dogg Pound, Jagged Edge and production-wise it's done through me, J.D., No ID and Scott Storch. We puttin' the West Coast together because we never had unity, but now we do. You know the Bay got that hyphy movement and Southern Cali's gonna come with that gangster movement. We got this on lock and we're starting this gangster movement down here.
LRM: How do you feel about the whole rap movement right now?
Daz: The South had it, East Coast got it, but now we all gotta have it and get it together. We can't be selfish; we all gotta get it together and make this a movement for hip-hop. This whole gangster music is coming back up. That's what I grew up on and that's what's coming back.
LRM: What single is out right now?
Daz: My single right now is "On The Real Sh*t." The videos done and we about to take this full swing. But by the time you all read this, the next single is gonna be the one with Jagged Edge called "The One." It's some really serious type music.
LRM: What's up with everyone from the Dogg Pound?
Daz: Everyone's Trump tight right now and we're all coming out with our solo albums. It's time for us to come out with our solo albums so Kurupt is on Doggy Style, and Snoop has his next album coming out called Blue Carpet Treatment. As for me, I'm on So So Def.
LRM: You've got some heaters coming out right now. Do you have any production credits or songs on Snoop's new album?
Daz: I'm doing some production work on his album and I got a song on it with Snoop and Pimp C called "Let It Rain."
LRM: How is it working with J.D.?
Daz: It's a reboost. I'm learning a lot more about the big side of business. I know the independent part and route of it, but now he's structured me right so I'm gonna let him do what he does best. It's a different ballgame out there and now I walk into places with a plan.
