Man, Where Does The Time Go?

Time Editor Letter

Once again, we draw near to the end of another year and the Holidays will soon be upon us in the wink of an eye. We have started a tradition here at LRM around the autumn months-a tradition of spotlighting an entire club in recognition of being selected as the Lowrider Club Of The Year. Rather than highlighting a couple of cars and running a short bio on the club's accomplishments, we dedicate an entire issue to represent these outstanding participants in the Lowrider Movement.

As announced at last year's Las Vegas Super Show, Oldies C.C. and all of its chapters are being recognized with this honor due to their community involvement and participation throughout countless seasons of LRM Tour shows. Congratulations, Oldies. We wish you continued success in your commitment to the lowrider culture and your communities.

Over the years, I have met with and read several letters from club representatives who have voiced concern on the credibility and eligibility to being a Club Of The Year recipient. It has been tough to come up with a programmed set of rules that will ultimately be fair to every club. In trying to be fair to all clubs, big and small, I am announcing two changes to being considered for the coveted Club Of The Year title.

Community involvement is almost a given with most clubs, as all of the leading clubs hold charity drives and are involved with local events. But the ability to beat out some of the larger car clubs presents an unfair challenge for a lot of clubs with fewer members who may be equally as involved, but short in the grand scheme of competition. So for that reason, I have put together the Club Of The Year "Recognition Award."

As the lowriding trend continues to grow, so too does the notoriety of some of lowriding's favorite clubs. As this notoriety comes of age, so too have a lot of other clubs whose numbers have grown into numerous chapters with members holding down their plaques with honor and pride. The new Club Of The Year "Participation Award" will go to those clubs who throughout the year continually organize their many members and show their strength and support in large numbers.

As for this November issue, there's plenty to be thankful for and to feast your eyes on. We're sure that you'll gobble up the special spreads on the Oldies' rides and their owners, as well as the car show coverage, technical how-to articles and the other regular staples of Lowrider Magazine.
Peace,
Ralph Fuentes
