In life, sometimes you find something without even looking for it. Such was the case for Chuy Barrera, of Anaheim, California. He wasn't looking for a car to build, as he already had one, but his friend, Ruben Perez, found this '75 Caprice Classic convertible on Craigslist. "I've always liked these Caprices as convertibles or hardtops and Ruben knew that," grins Chuy. Intrigued, he decided to make the drive to Pacoima, California, where the Caprice was located. After inspecting the ride and liking what he saw, he cut a deal and brought the car home with him. The car was purchased three years ago but it sat for a year due to Chuy working on another project. That project was a full-show '04 Hummer H2 with candy paint and chrome undercarriage, featured in the November 2013 issue of Lowrider magazine.

Before starting on the build, Chuy knew that he wanted to build this car a bit differently than he had done on his other projects. "I've always built full custom cars with chrome undercarriages but this time around, I wanted a driver that I could take out as much as possible, so I focused on paint and interior." Chuy was able to find a parade boot from a guy in Hollywood who had lost interest in using it on a build, and he had it painted and patterned to match his own graphics. "I was going to do the trunk and engine, but I like the way it looks when its closed because you can see the patterns flow through the body," explains Chuy of his paint decisions. It took Chuy a year and a half to finish the car and since then, has moved on to a new project; a '57 Bel Air that he is hoping to have done soon. Only time will tell if Chuy will decide to turn the '57 into a street build, or go all-out to create a full-show ride.

He would like to thank his family, club members, his father, Jose at Barrera's Auto, and his brothers, Tin and Pelon.
