Al "Big Al" Carr has been in the lowrider scene for a long time, formerly cruising the streets of Compton, California. You might recognize Big Al from the car show circuit with his custom-built '46 two-tone yellow and Candy Red truck.

When Al is not cutting hair at his barber shop he is out on the streets cutting off the competition. The El Camino that Al now hops all over town once belonged to his father. After Al's father passed away, the car was handed down to him. Since his dad was a legend in the lowrider community he decided to build a hopper that would take care of the competition on the streets and at the show circuit. After a couple of months the car was dropped off at Kool-Aid Hydraulics in Santa Fe Springs, California. When it was delivered, they started by reinforcing the stock frame with extra-strong steel. After the frame was fully wrapped, it all started to come together. The El Camino's setup includes four Kool-Aid pumps, 10-inch cylinders in the front, 30-inch cylinders in the rear, Adex dumps, 16 solenoids, special blocks, 8-inch hoses, and Kool-Aid springs powered by 16 Kool-Aid batteries that are controlled by five switches.

With the car now finished, Big Al has tken numerous awards, including the National Hydraulics Championship in 2007 for the Radical Class in Bakersfield, California, and First Place in the '08 Majestics New Year's Picnic. Al knows that switch hitting is not a new thing but he is ready to battle anyone who is willing to step it up on the streets.
