The South will rise again, they say, and we're definitely seeing a new day dawning for Dixie lowriders. Jose Reyes is a 28-year-old restaurateur down in Sharpsburg, Georgia, and when he's not on the job cooking up something hot for his customers, you can usually find him cruising his '87 "Homies Edition" Chevy Monte Carlo LS or helping out with a project build or event appearance related to his membership in Obsession Car Club.
Jose's association with Obsession C.C. and various other homies in the South has paid great dividends. In fact, this very vehicle began its life as a lowrider under different ownership. "My homeboy Perry Bunker built this LS for himself in the beginning, but he wanted a car that I had so we agreed to a trade," Jose tells us. "He's now in the middle of that build as we speak."
Perry was a driving force in making this Monte such a monster. Jose thanks him, along with Victor Freeman, Todd Wilson, Chris Harper, Ron Bunker, Scott Miller, Tommy and "Zoro," not to mention his wife, Heather, and his father for always supporting him. Perry's new project should be something to see, but that isn't all. "I also have a '64 Chevy Impala that Perry and I are in the process of building, so keep a lookout for us," Jose reports. "You haven't seen the last of these Obsession boys."

Engine/Drivetrain: Jose's homie Perry Bunker built the '84 Chevy 305-c.i.d. engine at his "personal shop" in Anderson, South Carolina. The exhaust system was provided by Troy's Muffler in Anderson.
Body/Paint: Chris Harper at Harper's Hot Rods in Anderson removed the vinyl top and prepped the Chevy sheet metal before Tommy at the same shop sprayed the Spies Hecker black base. Todd Wilson at Wilson's Magic Shop in Anderson worked his mural magic with images of clowns, dice, dominos and playing cards. Peach Plating in Atlanta, Georgia, did a sweet job on the chrome plating and Todd Wilson was equally sharp with his glass etching.
Interior: Randy's Rods in Spartanburg, South Carolina, readied the custom-stitched black and brandywine suede interior.
Sound System: Jordan Boggs bumped up this "Bowtie's" beat capabilities when he installed a Pioneer head unit, and Eclipse amps and speakers, including a 12-inch subwoofer.
Setup: Perry Bunker made this a lowridin' Monte with the installation of a two-pump Hi-Low Hydraulics setup that includes three dumps (an Adex for the front and a pair of Hi-Low numbers for the rear), 8-inch (front) and 14-inch (rear) Black Magic chrome cylinders, Exide batteries, Accumax solenoids and four switches. The G-body frame modifications can be found in the front crossmember, rear arches, and molded and chrome-plated A-arms.
