Last year, San Diego, California, saw its share of fires, and the fire season will probably be over by the time that you read this. But before the first fire hit, Fermin Contreras was already looking for a way to honor the fire fighters of San Diego County. Fermin is a mechanic by trade and decided that his '91 Harley Heritage classic would be a rolling memorial to the hard work that San Diego fire fighters do.
Fermin and his friend Tom went ahead and installed a Vance and Hines exhaust on the 80-cubic-inch motor. The motor also received a liberal dose of red paint to accent the red and pink flames to come later. Plenty of chrome accents were included, such as Harley skull air cleaner covers, chrome coil covers and flame footrest.
For good measure and to continue on with the theme, a chrome siren was also added. The solo seat has red stitching in a flame pattern, further complementing the flames painted on the tank and fenders. Jesus Rodriguez gets all of the credit for making a white pearl base with red and pink pearl flames happen. The 16-inch wheels received some red paint in addition to a set of whitewall tires to complement the base color. The result of it all is a bike that's hot to touch and visually cool.
When we rolled the bike up to Fire Station 38, the firemen were thoroughly impressed. Fermin has taken the bike to quite a few events and has received nothing but praise. A special thanks goes out to Station 38 for allowing us to use their brand new truck as a backdrop.
