Tetsuya Iwata of Nagoya, Japan, was enjoying lowriding with his '67 Chevy Impala SS convertible originally purchased in Los Angeles, California. When he got this '67 it was already fixed up as a street custom that was nice and was featured in a magazine, but after while, he started thinking about redoing the whole car to make a finest ride. What Tetsuya was thinking about was how to re-custom his '67. He had images of two favorite lowriders from L.A.-"G" from Majestics C.C.'s "Gangster's Paradise" and Zeuss' (R.I.P.) all-red "Mr. Blvd."
Inspired by those top lowriders, Tetsuya decided to go with red. He took his '67 to Midland Auto Custom in Nagoya, one of the top OG lowrider shops in Japan, known for high-quality custom and hydraulics work. The project started with taking the body off of the frame and stripped to the metal, even on the backside of the floor.
The body, even the bottom of the floor, was painted Ferrari red. A matching red convertible top gives a special image to the car. The chrome hydraulics setup stands out in the all-red upholstered trunk. The headlights were converted with BMW-style red light ring around them for special eye makeup. The mural was done by "Big O," who's one of the top muralists in Japan.
Tetsuya has succeeded on this makeover for sure. "Red Bull" has been winning sweepstakes at shows to prove it. Please check out the quality of the Japanese work and craftsmanship.
