Tommy "T.J." Jones of Las Vegas, Nevada, bought this '87 Caprice from one of his fellow Royals Car Club members two days after "Big Dave," the club president, passed away. T.J. brought the car home and quickly broke it down, leaving it a rolling shell that he later rebuilt from the ground up in six months.
T.J. went through the entire car at his shop, The Ave Customs, as he had one goal to meet, and that was to build one of Sin City's cleanest street hoppers. First, he swapped out the frame for one that was fully strapped, and then a three-pump hydraulic setup was dropped in. One of the pumps is a piston pump that was made for hopping and is controlled by a monster green aircraft hydraulic dump. Eight-inch strokes up front and telescopic 16-inch cylinders in the rear allow the car to lock up high when it's time to nose up.
This low-maintenance street car is usually ready to go, as it usually just needs to have its batteries charged before hitting the boulevard. T.J.'s "Purple Kush" is one of the cleaner rides that we've found out there hopping. We can't wait to see what else T.J. breaks out in his attempt to reclaim his King of the Streets title. It might be with this Caprice or his latest project that's going to surprise everyone when it breaks out. Good luck and keep up the good work.
