Sometimes, accomplishing a goal can seem to take forever, while at other times it can happen so fast that it can make your head spin. Gary Stevens of Las Vegas, Nevada, knows both sensations. "When I was young, I set my mind on building a '64 Chevy Impala," says Gary. Years later, when the 34-year-old had decided that "it was time," Gary shifted gears and made his project '64 a priority."Just seven days after I bought the car in Northern California, I dropped it off at Dirty D's house in Las Vegas," Gary tells us. "He built the entire car in his two-car garage in an incredible six months. It seemed like a long time, but at the same time it was a good education to participate in the build."Dirty D obviously knows his way around clean cars, judging by the '64's chromed-out 350 engine, DuPont orange finish, JVC/Rockford Fosgate sound system and Slam Specialties airbag setup. Dirty D and his crew now have Gary's eternal gratitude. He also thanks his family and fellow One Luv C.C. members.Now "pretty much said and done," Gary may go full paint and chrome on the '64's undercarriage, but plans no other major reworking of the car in the future. "Same look, just some new touches," he says of his tangy and tasty '64.

Engine/Drivetrain: "Dirty D" at Dirty D's Ride Design and Fabrication in East Las Vegas did the dirty deed on the original 350-c.i.d., working it over and fitting it out with an MSD ignition, and Edelbrock carb and manifold. Jack's Muffler Shop in North Las Vegas got involved on the other end.
Body/Paint: Dirty D did it up good, first repairing any rust and doing any other necessary prep work before shooting the Chevy sheet metal with DuPont Hot Hues orange paint. The chrome plating was provided by Ira at the Shine Shop in Henderson, Nevada.
Interior: Paul R. of Las Vegas gave his all on the stock-style doe-colored interior.
Sound System: Dirty D does it again! This time, the Dirty dudes equipped the '64 with a JVC head unit mounted in the glove box, a pair of Rockford Fosgate amps, Rockford Fosgate three-way tweeters and 6x9s, plus a pair of 10-inch subwoofers to put the beat on the Sin City streets.
Suspension: Gary rides on air ever since Dirty D installed a "hopper-style" airbag system that includes Slam Specialties 2,800-pound bags, 34-inch GC Extreme 450 valves, two 5-gallon chrome tanks, a pair of Viair 380C compressors, 34-inch nylon hoses and six switches. The X-frame was also given a partial wrap.
