TECH SPECS
Green Scene
Owner: Mike Ramos
Vehicle: 1954 Chevrolet 3100 1/2-ton pickup truck
City/State: Whittier, California
Engine/Drivetrain: The truck still sports the original 235-c.i.d. straight-6 engine with chrome dress-up kit. Manuel Rojas at Safe and Sound in Downey, California, gets the credit for the engine buildup. The engine is linked to a rare Hydromatic automatic transmission that was rebuilt by ABC Transmission in La Mirada, California. A dual exhaust has been modified to a single outlet for that OG look.
Body/Paint: Mike commissioned Ralph "Tutu" Burresh of Tutu's Restoration in La Puente, California, to restore the truck to factory specs before having Tutu's buddy Gabe give it a custom green finish, a color that Mike refuses to divulge. The paint job was done some 15 years ago to add a bit of contrast. Mike Lopez of Whittier laid a few lines of One Shot with a pinstripe brush. The plating job is also about 15 years old and was done by Javier and Jos from The Bumper Choice in Santa Fe Springs, California, where the guys did the stainless moldings as well. Other notable touches include a rear bumper splash pan (never made), but provided with the help of Conrad Garcia of Wheel Network in Paramount, California.
Interior: Mike had Garza's Auto Upholstery in La Puente, California, do the seating in an OG brown GM vinyl grain finish to the rare 60/40-split seat that has been tweaked out in a sort of '50s car theme. A cherry NOS butterfly steering wheel and accessories galore make this rare Chevy all the more captivating to both young and old.
Sound System: In keeping with the more-car-than-farm-truck theme, Mike rebuilt the AM radio to working condition, while adding vintage knobs from a Chevy car. This was done seamlessly and most onlookers don't notice the minor change.
Suspension: The suspension is made up of mono-leaf springs, altered a tad for a cool cruising stance.
Tires: 16-inch BFGoodrich whitewall
Wheels: Artillery style capped with rare GM full-wheel covers
