In today's busy world, many of us hardly have any leisure time to indulge in our favorite pastime-whether it be going to the park with your loved ones, traveling abroad or, like Lisset Mijares of Sacramento, California, building a lowrider. Lisset, her husband, Gabriel, brother Saul, friends Jay and Lorenzo at Crazy Hydraulics, "Peewee," Awad and friends Larry and Mario at Mario's Mobile took just three short, but busy months, to get their Chevrolet Impala Super Sport, "Bejeweled '65," to lowrider status. There's also a personal reason for the project; it's in loving memory of Paul Sanchez, Lisset's father who loved his family and the lowrider culture of Northern California.
As a busy woman tending to secretarial duties, Lisset worked very hard to achieve her place in the lowrider community, traveling as far away as Portland, Oregon, to participate in LRM's 2005 Tour stop. Lisset and her crew are proud to represent Socios Car Club based in Northern California.
The mix of some old school paint techniques and the use of "jewels" inside and out of the Impala struck a chord in us when we were given a heads up by freelancer Mario Quintana who hipped us to this dazzling driver. So we made it a point to catch this car, along with several other NorCal "beauties" during our visit after Lowrider Magazine's San Francisco, California, Tour stop at the venerable Cow Palace.
We hope that this rolling jewel box inspires more lady lowriders to pursue their dreams of having a ride as nice as Lisset's. It may take more than three months to build your car, but remember that LRM will be on the lookout for the next diamond in the rough.
