Jose Salas of Novato, California, is proud of his lowriding heritage and the fact that his family has supported his dream of being featured in Aztlan's number one magazine. Jose, a member of Sabor Latino Car Club, makes an honest living as a roofing hauler to provide for his young family. With what extra time and money he has, Jose has been working on his fixed-up '86 Pontiac Fiero GT, "The Sith." A big Star Wars fan from the get-go, Jose thought what better theme to go with on his cruiser.

This endeavor took some time to develop as Jose had plenty of help from friends like Curt, who did a lot of the work in his backyard in Vacaville, California. Curt is responsible for all of the chassis work, which includes a gold flake finish, as well as some chrome. Western Plating of San Rafael, California, handled both the chrome and gold on The Sith. He also had to get busy in the engine department with the same gold touches as well as that magical metalflake.

As far as the hydro setup goes, "Bill" at Dynasty in Sonoma, California, was called upon to whip up a double-pump setup using a pair of Luxor high-pressure pumps matched to four dumps. The springs are slightly trimmed for a deeper stance, which can be altered at any given moment by hitting any of the 10 switches on the box inside the cabin. Curt also had a hand in the exterior mods before sending it off the Blake's Auto Body in San Rafael. Jim Renshaw went over the bodywork with House of Kolor materials for a truly custom finish.

The Star Wars inspired artwork is worthy of a Jedi Knight, but in Jose's case, it was up to Ernesto "Medicine Man" Aguirre of Oakland, California, to create the various scenes found throughout the Fiero. They depict the Sith lord, Darth Maul, with his blazing eyes and stark features on both the hood and trunk. There's also imagery of Lord Darth Vader as well as a young Obi-Won Kenobi and his mentor, Jedi Knight and master Qui-Gon Jinn. The Force definitely has a strong presence in the artwork of the young Medicine Man.

The blue diamond upholstery is found along the interior, hood piece and trunk area. Curt's home was busy with the hum of a sewing machine stitching up panels, pleats and dash pad with the colorful material that goes perfect with Jose's funky Fiero. As far as the audio portion of the car, Auto & Sound Investments (ASI) of Napa, California, is known for its quality work. From economical to the outrageous, ASI can do it all. As for Jose's ride and joy, ASI hooked up a Sony head unit, Sony crossover, two Soundstream amplifiers, Sony CD changer, mini TV/receiver, Motorola mobile cellular phone and Optima battery. Monster 4-gauge cable wires everything together for a concert-like system for driver and passenger.

Other features include 13-inch Crown wires in Dunlop radial tires, undercarriage lighting and a talking Clifford alarm system to keep the rebels at bay. As we said before, this is quite a moment for Jose and his familia, "I've always enjoyed the Star Wars theme and attending lowrider shows annually even if I win or lose. There is so much talent and beautiful cars that I would like to thank my wife, Carolina, and my children, Jose, Jr., Joseph and daughter Laurissa for putting up with me for seven years building this great car. I would also live to thank Sabor Latino C.C. for helping me, and people like Ernesto Aguirre, who's part of the Sabor Latino clan."
