This month's Going For Broke spotlights CCE Hydraulics of Louisville, Kentucky, and their new "El Sancho" Olds Cutlass. You've probably heard of El Sancho or maybe even seen the vehicle at one time or another. The fact of the matter is that this is the fourth or fifth El Sancho built by Team CCE. This isn't an uncommon practice in the automotive world where players and teams tend to keep what they have to gain recognition and maintain an image. The same goes for the name. A well-known vehicle name will always be remembered. They'll never remember the owner or the switchman, but they'll remember the car.
With nothing to really do during the winter months, Team CCE decided to build this new version of El Sancho. This Cutlass was put together in two weeks by Trad Burns of Cool Cars. With all of the knowledge that he and the other Cool Cars/CCE guys have acquired through the years, two weeks is a realistic build time. Trad reinforced the whole frame in 11/44-inch plate steel and built a custom roll cage from bumper to bumper. The cage will prevent the roof from collapsing if it flips over.
CCE always tries to have only the best on their team, and their success has added to the pressure of having a vehicle that performs to their high standards. Fortunately, switchman Bryan Gillespie stepped up his game even more this year and has been hot on the switch. CCE also wanted to use this ride as a promotional piece for the shop so they used only off-the-shelf parts to show customers that they too can be part of the big picture if they put their minds to it.
