Lubbock, TexasIn the Lone Star State, the city of Lubbock is best known for Bobby Knight basketball and rock 'n' roller Buddy Holly. And so, who better to accompany such icons than lowrider legend Nick Hernandez. The 2006 Lowrider Hall of Famer decided to bring a taste of his car show tradition to this West Texas community. On May 20, Texas Tours Entertainment, in its 35th year, presented the Tejano Super Car Show at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

Located at the tail end of "Tornado Alley," the area is notorious for its unpredictable weather, and this weekend was no exception. Many questioned if the show would go on, but, with four decades of experience under his belt, "El Nicky" stated, "With a little help from the man upstairs, come show time, everything would be alright," and it was.

With more than 200 entries, the indoor/outdoor venue reached full capacity with some of the area's custom lows, dubs and imports. Showcased on the main floor was Augustine Hernandez' '81 Lincoln, "Latino Heat"; Alma Gomez' '73 Chevy Impala, "Magentalicious"; and Johnny Garcia's flaked-out '51 Chevy truck.

In addition, making the 400-mile trek from El Paso, Texas, was Faustino Flores and his fellow Uce members. The 2005 LRM Traditional champion cruised in with his clean '61 Impala rag, having everyone wondering where's "3-Karat," his '58 Impala? Faustino mentioned with the tough competition expected at the LRM Las Vegas finale, the ragtop was in yet another flawless conception in hopes of prevailing with the gold once more.

Kicking off the entertainment were the old school tunes by Tejano music legends Carlos Miranda, Augustine Ramirez and Sonny Ozuna. Next, the new school beats of Cuete, followed by Noise Impacted Click got the crowd revved up for Lil' Rob. "Mr. 1218" himself rolled out the hits for his Tejano fans, and closed the show on a high note.

Texas Tours Entertainment, along with Bajito 2000 Auto Accessories, Magic 93 and Hot 97, wish to thank the spectators and participants in making the show a great success. We hope to see y'all again next year. Paz!
