Farewell to Pastor Joe
In Riverside, California, Pastor Joe's legacy will live on for custom car enthusiasts...
In last year's September '04 issue of Lowrider Magazine, we featured Pastor Joe Simms of Riverside, California. Pastor Joe did his heavenly work at the Riverside Faith Temple where the local community adored him. The 67-year-old was a cool guy to everybody, young to old, and on top of that, he had a love for custom cars. Pastor Joe began holding car shows at the church, inviting local custom car enthusiasts, especially the lowriders. Pastor Joe's own custom car was his '77 Chevy El Camino which he would always have on display at the church.
The car shows held at this church brought together Blacks, Latinos, and other races for the love of cars, basically bridging the gap between the ethnic minorities. As mentioned in that September issue, Pastor Joe was diagnosed with having prostate cancer. Unfortunately, the cancer ultimately won the battle and Pastor Joe passed away last April 2005. Within days, the Riverside community and the church goers came together to throw a special show in commemoration of him and his legacy of doing good in the city. These are just some of the pictures from this special car show.
