The city of South Gate, California, has sponsored the annual Azalea Festival since 1966. It's the city's annual celebration of its official flower, the Azalea. This year the four-day celebration kicked off on March 20th with a grand opening ceremony where the Azalea Queen and Grand Marshal are selected. Through the next few days the celebration continues with various activities that include a carnival, softball tournament, fashion show, and the main event being the car show, held at the golf course.
This show was a classic back in the '90s and early 2000s, and this year's show was reminiscent of those days. It was absolutely apparent how the show added excitement for those who used to attend the show in its heyday. There was room for 350 cars and the spots filled up quickly, unfortunately many cars were not able to be displayed, but regardless, everyone had a good time.
Southern California's top car clubs came out to the show in full force such as Dukes, Lifestyle, Imperials, Groupe, Elite, Our Style, Premier, and many more. The feeling was mutual among the different car club members who we spoke with as they all felt that the show took them back to memory lane, especially with Joe Bataan singing from the stage. With the weather, great atmosphere, and the best-looking cars around we look forward to next year's show. So plan ahead and get there early because with this year's success, spots will fill up fast and even more spectators will attend.
