Motorsport Showcase LLC, Mega 104.3, and Ft. McDowell Casino teamed up together for a Saturday Night Under the Stars Car Show and Concert. This old school party featured Arizona's Lowrider and Custom Car Clubs, which made for an enjoyable weekend getaway at the Fort McDowell Casino Resort located outside of Mesa, AZ. Over 9,000 spectators partied under the desert moonlight and jammed to main stage acts like Tone Loc, Shock G of Digital Underground, Evelyn Champagne King, Rolls Royce, and Warren G. The Fort served as a perfect setting for a car show under the stars. The show included other old school traditionals like an old school car hop and dance, featuring cars from Frank's Custom Hydraulics and Street life Hydraulics. Frank Castillo and Todd Land, both owners and operators of Arizona's premier hydraulic shops gave the crowd plenty to cheer about in the competitions. By hitting triple digits on the switches and having their crazy dancers shake off the heat in defying gravity, these guys really put on a show for the spectators on hand. The nighttime atmosphere under the lights gave the candies, flakes, and pearl paint jobs that special "Boulevard cruise" look. Though it was early evening, the car show theme was hot and heavy, and thanks to Hensley & Co. Budweiser Distributor, this year's event featured the new Mobile Cantina created by the people at Hensley. The Cantina featured laser and neon lights, a state-of-the-art sound system, plasma televisions, and a full Cantina Bar stocked with Bud Light and the new "margarita-in-a-keg" Margarita Sensations, which quickly became the favorite drink of the night. Budweiser strongly promotes a don't drink and drive program, and with the luxurious Radisson Resort just a few steps away, the resort quickly sold out of rooms for the Lowrider weekend old-school party. With old-school music on the main stage and Lowrider Magazine Videos being featured in the many of the Cantina's plasma TV's, friends and family partying together was what really made this a night to remember.
This year's event brought out Arizona's finest Lowrider creations. Best of Show awards sponsored by R&S Chrome Fasteners were custom designed and made for this one of a kind event. Ron Torrio, co-owner of R&S proudly presented Best of Show winners to Manuel Diaz's '62 Impala, Todd Land's Majestic '63 Impala, and Joe Mirelez's Society '65 Impala. The Best of Show Motorcycle winner was Earnest Tarango and Best Bike of Show was awarded to Tony Ortega, who is quickly becoming an award winning Lowrider bike builder. Fort McDowell President Dr. Clinton Pattea presented Danny Ochoa and his Caliente '64 Impala with the prestigious Eagle Award for being this year's Host Lowrider Car from Society Car Club.
