Lowrider Magazine headed back up the California Coast to attend the 2nd annual California Car & Cycle Show at the Ventura County Fairgrounds this past May. Just like last year, El Concilio of Ventura County teamed up with the Oxnard Chapter of Viejitos Car Club, Fresh Mex, and X-Treme Entertainment to produce the event. All proceeds from the show benefited the communities of Ventura County.
This show's turnout was a success once again, as every available space was utilized on the property of the fairgrounds for the show. There were over 400 pre-registrations and plenty of participants showed up on the morning of the show to fill up the outside areas of the fairgrounds.
The main buildings of the fairgrounds were filled to the walls with some heavy hitters from the surrounding areas. One building was filled with a very impressive lineup from Southside Car Club. Their lineup was well-rounded, as it was comprised of both traditional and full custom rides. It was hard to get a photo of this club's cars because so many spectators were admiring these beauties from the time the doors opened until the show ended! Lined up next to Southside was the equally impressive lineup from Premier Car Club. June 2010 cover car Maclovio Garcia's '75 Chevy Caprice led the lineup, which also included Chris Field's '62 hard top Chevy Impala. The other indoor areas where populated with some high quality rides from clubs like Pachuco, Oldies, Good Times, Connected, Majestics, La Gente, and Style Unlimited to name a few.
The outdoor areas of the fairgrounds were filled with cars from Latin Bombas, Viejitos, New Crowd, Cruceros, and solo riders from the surrounding areas. Vendors selling food, drinks, and collectables were situated throughout the show. City Locs eyewear was busy all day selling sunglasses to those who were not prepared for the sunny Ventura coastline.
The live entertainment kept the show attendees in a festive mood and the carnival rides kept the kids at the show busy throughout the day. This year's show did differ from last year's in the fact that there was no hopping contest, but plans are already set to bring it back in 2011.
This year's show proved to be as successful as last year's for everyone involved. With all of the proceeds going back into the surrounding communities, the show producers are providing for those who are less fortunate and adding to the positive image of the Lowriding Culture.
