The expectations were high for the Lowrider Experience Tour, an official LRM-sanctioned event. Florida has been without a true Lowrider show for the past two years, so the anticipation for this year's Tampa stop was quite remarkable. It started as a Saturday roll-in and turned into a weekend party. Hundreds of cars entered the Florida State Fairgrounds in a single file line as the ODB Entertainment staff greeted each vehicle. The hot weather seemed to welcome the crowd, as the clouds parted and nothing but pure sunlight remained throughout the whole weekend.
The talk of the day was Johnny Salters' '58 Chevy Impala "8 Cents," out of South Carolina. Obsession C.C. had a very impressive showing as well, covering the indoor and outdoor spots. Majestics from as far away as Texas arrived ready to show and shine for the crowd. Other notable clubs that showed support were UCE, Success, Living It Up, Rollerz Only, Good Times, Unique, Old School, 25th Street Riders, Low Lyfe, Purolows, South Central and Firme Estilo.
The hop contest began with a lineup that included plenty of high flyers. Victor Cortez from Success C.C. set the stage with his Cutlass, with the CCE pick up following closely behind. Black Widow from Firme Estilo had promising hopes, but fell short when its rim and tire came off. Straight from their long drive from New Jersey, Loyalty launched their Cutlass up to an astonishing 82 inches, with Pinky from Team Switchmaster standing on the bumper. Not to be outdone, the CCE pickup that stood on the tailgate but was disqualified.
An amazing turnout, beautiful weather, high flying hoppers and a great atmosphere made The Lowrider Experience in Tampa, Florida a great relief for the Lowrider culture. "We now have something to prepare for and enjoy once a year." says Eddie Renteria from Purolows, adding, "We couldn't ask for anything more." One of the first true family events, the kids in attendance were even given a bounce house to enjoy while at the event. While the kids were playing, their parents were showing off some of the finest vehicles in the country.
