The summer air graced the early morning of June 28, 2009, and the day was off to the perfect start. Bright blue skies, warm temperatures, and a BBQ smell in the air meant only one thing; Lowriders were going to unite. This beautiful summer day became a fitting backdrop for the Solitos Car Club 2nd Annual Car Show. The event brought together a gathering of some of the most respected Lowriders from Indy, Chi-town, Northern Illinois and Milwaukee. Lowrider events are scarce in this area, and it's safe to say that the city of Chicago hadn't experienced a show like this in a very long time. Over 200 cars packed into Sharky's Billiards & Sports Bar, making this one of the largest shows to hit Illinois in several years. The current President of Solitos Car Club, Sergio, anticipated a large crowd, but he never imagined the possibility of an outcome like this. "I always knew we could do this, and [felt that] we had to make our show bigger than last year. At the same time, I received a call from Joe Isa from SouthSide Cruisers, who told me that Jamal from Rolli'n Lowrider Videos was going to cover the event. At that moment I knew that this show was going to be big! Lowrider Magazine and Rolli'n Videos? What more can I ask for?" said Sergio. He was right, and the show turned out to be even bigger than he could have expected, signaling a very strong Midwest presence in the Lowrider culture. DJ Marazul kept the crowd rocking throughout the day as they admired the street machines and the hoppers alike. Thanks to the sizeable attendance, and its great display of Lowriders and sky-high hoppers, Solitos 2nd Annual Car Show was definitely the place to be. The car club accomplished its goal of giving people a good time, the Solitos way. "The plan now is to make this show bigger every year, and we are already looking into a bigger location because of the success of this show," Sergio says. "We couldn't have done it without the great support from our Lowriding community." Well said Sergio, we look forward to next year! By Armando Toledo Enjoyed this Post?
