A blazing summer day in Houston, Texas served as the perfect backdrop for the local community's 2nd annual Grill & Chill Lowrider Show. Adair Park, a beautiful area located on the outskirts of the city, played host to this wonderful event, which was put together by Latin Kustoms Car Club based out of Pasadena, Texas, and Houston's own Last Minute Customs. Latin Kustoms held a pre-show party in one of Houston's hottest nightclubs the night before the show, drumming up anticipation for this amazing event to a near fever pitch. Everybody in H-Town was anxious to attend this summer show, and over 400 cars packed the Adair Park parking lot the next day to prove it.
The line to get in to the event was extremely long, as attendees looked to kick back with their family and friends and enjoy the friendly atmosphere. The team from Slaughter House Smokers grilled up 600 pounds of Fajita meat and gave away over 4000 drinks, on a tab completely picked up by Latin Kustoms Car Club. The club took its responsibilities as host club seriously, making a commitment to provide the food and drinks, hoping to ensure that even if the crowd was short on cash, they would not go hungry or die of thirst under the intense Houston sun. The event also featured plenty of cash prizes, as well as gift bags which were given away to a few lucky winners. The tug o' war contest was popular during last year's inaugural Grill & Chill, so they brought it back for a second time for this year's festivities. In the end, the Slaughter House Smokers prevailed and took home the prize as well as the bragging rights. The hopping competition brought out the elite from Dallas and Houston, and the competitors went head-to-head to see who would take home the cash. Victor "Boiler" was crowned king, as his Cutlass hit for over 75 inches! With many local Car Clubs supporting the event, a few even traveled in from Dallas, TX including the Majestics and Rollers Only Car Clubs. Local Car Clubs on hand included Dessert Dreams, Legions, Loco Creations, H-Town Maniacos, Strictly Homies, Houston Stylez, and Expensive Taste, representing their own unique H-Town style with their custom Low-Low's.
At the close of the event Latin Kustoms Car Club thanked everybody for making the Grill & Chill such an amazing success, and vowed to make it even bigger and better next year. Even though over 7,000 spectators attended the event, it was a "peaceful and enjoyable show" according to a Peace Officer who worked at the park. He expressed the sentiment that he believed next year's show will also be welcome in this beautiful park. Joe and Bruce would like to thank everybody that attended the Grill & Chill Show and Picnic, and invite anyone interested to come on out to next year's great show.
