2008 Vegas Super Show

The Super Show Lives Up To The Super Hype

Chris Roark's '58 Won Lowrider Of The Year. With 700 cars packing the show and over 20,000 spectators there is certainly no lack of enthusiasm for the sport of lowriding, no matter what economic situation the country is in. Car clubs, families, neighbors, and friends from around the world cruised the show checking out the new lowrider innovations, musical acts, bikini contest, and the vendors. We'd like to extend a special thanks to our sponsors--Lexani, the Air Force, and Wanted Wear--for their support.

The inside hall was full of some of lowriding's best as well as some new additions to the show circuit. All the clubs, for the most part, had their crme de la crme inside the hall. On the new side was Los Angeles Car Club's Jesus Ortega's '87 Monte Carlo, a new breakout vehicle. It features a tilt front end with plenty of murals and engraving, and it took Second Place in Best of Show on its first outing.

Stylistics Car Club showed five of their top cars--look for a feature on them soon. Lifestyle Car Club broke out a few new cars for the super show and formed an impressive display of lowriders hanging out on different boulevards, giving them Best Club Display for their efforts.

A number of old favorites were out on the show floor as well, like Rollerz Only's "Rollin' Malo," Uce's "Arguello Mexicano," and Oldies "Darkside Dynasty," which is owned by Chris Roark. And if having one car at the show wasn't enough, Roark brought out his latest creation, "Perfect Score," a '58 Impala hardtop that has taken the game to the next level. With custom machined parts throughout, along with murals and engraving literally everywhere, it was certainly one of the must-see cars at the show. All his hard work paid off with numerous trophy and plaque awards, including the prestigious '08 Lowrider of the Year award, which were collected and gathered around his display after the show was over.

Faustino Flores of Uce Car Club and his '58 cover car "Three-Karat Diamond" did it again, taking First Place in the Traditional Lowrider Best of Show. Flores' continuous fine-tuning of his car has netted him three titles, which, barring major changes, ends his reign as king of the heap. Does Flores have another secret weapon in the making? Only time and next year's tour will tell.

On the Euro end of things, Steven Vogel and his green '85 Nissan Stanza took First Place. There were clubs from all around the country showing in good numbers, but Majestics took the award for Car Club with the Most Members for 2008. A special thanks goes out to them for their continued support, along with all the other clubs and individuals who made their way to the shows this year. Rollerz Only once again snagged the Car Club with the Most Participation During the 2008 Tour, making this their fifth win.

The outdoor segment of the show was slammed with some of lowriding's most enthusiastic lowriders. Vendor row was full of things to see and buy, like Lexani shoes and apparel as well as T-shirts from the Wanted merchandise booth. A visit to the Air Force booth could land you a career change with just a sign on the dotted line. Pro Hopper had a huge booth that showed and sold hydraulics and air ride wares. The other side of the super show spectrum featured the ever-popular hop, which was full of action. Turn the pages for more detailed coverage.
