The Hollywood Park Racetrack opened in 1938 in Inglewood, California. Since then it has been the place to experience exciting thoroughbred horse racing in the Los Angeles area. Over the years it has hosted some memorable racing events, most notably the Breeder's Cup. In recent years a casino was added to the grounds, and a new housing development will be completed soon.
Techniques Car Club utilized the vast parking areas at Hollywood Park to produce a car, bike, and motorcycle show. The show was produced in partnership with the City of Hope's "La Gota de la Vida" campaign. The goal of the campaign is to raise funds for City of Hope, which educates Latinos about their health and increases the number of donors in the National Bone Marrow program.
City of Hope received word that Techniques had produced successful bone marrow donor drives in the Southern California area for Techniques member Peter Cruz's godson Boo, so they approached the club and asked if they could team up and produce the show as well as another bone marrow donor drive. The area set for the show filled up quickly with a vast amount of cars, trucks, motorcycles, and lowrider bikes. Everything from full custom cars and trucks to completely restored classics were on display. Not to be outdone, the lowrider bike clubs had a huge area to display their creations as well as custom pedal cars and strollers.
Techniques member Joey premiered his latest build, a frame-off Lincoln Continental called "Family Jewels." Amigos, Stylistics, Together, Maniacos, and many other clubs came to support the show with the hope of leaving with a trophy.
The event was successful for both Techniques and City of Hope. Attendees were not only treated to some great eye candy but were also able to gather information on the bone marrow donor program as well as their own health.
As with Peter Cruz's godson's success story of being able to find a bone marrow donor match, we too hope that a match was made as a result of the drive that was held at this show. This is another example of the lowrider culture coming together to help a great cause.
