The West Texas showdown in Odessa, Texas, is absolutely the most exciting and grandest show of them all in the Lone Star State. The 36th annual event in November wrapped up the 2007 show season fittingly. The lowriding affair was a significant success thanks in part to O'Reilly Auto Parts, Cable One, Malholtra Lawfirm, CBS 7, B93, Medical Center Hospital, Kent Companies, Nuestra Cultura, Univision and Bajito Body Shop.
The isolated West Texas city of Odessa is better known as a booming oil city and was even highlighted as the setting for the famous Friday Night Lights movie, but when the annual Tejano Super Car Show rolls around, the city becomes the hot spot that's invaded with nothing but the finest lows from Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona and even California.
Nick Hernandez, promoter of Texas Tours Entertainment and 2006 Lowrider Hall of Famer, knows exactly what lowriding fans thirst for. The Sunday party was comprised of exceptional rides, talented music artists and friends from all around. The Ector County Coliseum and six other spacious exhibit buildings were filled to capacity with the finest lowriders. Even the outdoor grounds area was overflowing with custom rides, booths and an outdoor stage that hosted Tejano musicians.
An uncountable number of car clubs trekked into the Permian Basin to partake in the extravaganza, such as Uce, Rollerz Only, Estilo, Majestics, Dallas Lowriders, Rather Unique Style, Imperials, Latin Kustoms, Solitos and several others. The crew from Estilo C.C. took up an entire building for themselves and displayed nothing but the finest rides. Their lineup consisted of the best classic creations that featured the remarkable custom work from R&R Customs of El Paso, Texas.
Impeccable rides belonging to Faustino Flores, Pedro Salinas and Francisco Franco led the way for Uce Car Club, and helped the club pick up several coveted awards. Faustino's infamous "3 Karat" was an impressive concept on display and proved just why it was crowned as a LRM Traditional Sweepstakes champion.
On the main floor arena stood the cream of the crop. "Eazy" Garcia's radical two-door convertible Cadillac Fleetwood, dubbed "Royal Flush," was definitely the crowd favorite. Isidro Juarez' "Prophecy" bomb truck was unquestionably an enchanted sight to see. Nick's own Hall of Fame car club, Taste of Latin C.C., has stood the test of time and their own masterpieces were on display to see such as Augustine's "Latino Heat" '81 Lincoln, Alma Gomez "Magentalicious" '73 Chevy Impala, David Leal's candy coated Cadillac and Johnny Garcia's flaked-out '51 bomb truck.
The car hop event has been a whole attraction itself. The competition was fierce and each high-flying daredevil made a name for himself in each category. Heavy hitters such as USA Motorsports, Baeza Brothers and Hi-Low Hydraulics came to represent and they all made a lasting impression with the amazing performances that they put on.
The switch action was definitely extraordinary, but it was the high energy on the main stage that had the thousands in attendance moving and grooving to today's hottest tracks and the renowned Tejano tunes. Setting the stage was local talent comprised of ODT, Street Made and Noise Impacted Click. The main roster included performances by Rasheed, Chingo Bling, Mr. Capone-E, Amanda Perez, Jimmy Gonzales and the legendary Grupo Mazz. It was a spectacle not to be missed.
The hundreds of participants, vendors and record-breaking 15,000-plus attendees proved that this Texas Tours Entertainment bash is definitely worth the trip to West Texas. The lowriding tradition continues and LRM will certainly be on the scene again for this year's anticipated Tejano Super Car Show.
