San Diego Super Car Show
A Solid Mix Of OG Lows Makes For A Classic Show.
The San Diego Super Indoor Custom Car Show and Concert was truly off the hook. With close to 400 of Southern California's best lowriders in the house, the event at the San Diego Convention Center was the place to be this past Labor Day weekend.
Cars came from all over to be part of the show with clubs like Amigos, Imperials, Groupe, Klique, Together, Lifestyle, Majestics, Ultimate Riders, Duke's and Uce on hand to support the event. The indoor halls had cars, girls and music. The music was playing, Danny De la Paz was signing autographs for his fans, the A/C was at the right temperature, and if you were still hot and 21 or older, you could stop by the Budweiser beer garden and drink yourself a few.
Winners at the show included Tanya Maxwell, who won Best in Show with her custom '63 Chevy Impala, "Ultimate Obsession." Best Hydraulics went to Tim Rodriguez' '57 Chevy Bel Air "Gold Digger." Several first generation Chevy Monte Carlos, Ford T-birds, Ford LTDs, Buick Rivieras, Chevy "glasshouses" and Lincolns came out to compete. This was cool to see as these cars were the same ones that helped the Lowrider Movement grow in the '70s. There were also plenty of Impalas, "G-bodies" and some bad-ass classic bombs in the house.
Nice weather helped make for a pleasant Labor Day weekend experience. The event had a family atmosphere to it and there were no problems at the venue. The show was put together by Mario Lopez and Rob "Bird" Rice, who had a handful of assistants and judges to make it all possible. We're sure that this year's San Diego show will be just as successful.
