On super Sunday, the weather was damp, but that didn't stop lowrider lovers from setting up and displaying the West Coast's best rides. Everything from Corvettes, Euros and classics to, of course, many diverse lowriders cruised in to pack the Fairgrounds. Amazingly enough, by 11 a.m., more than 400 exhibitors filled up three Fairground buildings, including the outdoor spaces. This list included 20 hoppers and 40 sound-off entries, as well as three LRM champions: the DeAlba's "Passion" VW Jetta, Jerry Marquez' flip front end Chevy S-10 Blazer and Oldies Car Club member Gilbert Casares' amazing and wallet-aching '54 Chevy.
Through the day, 4,000 fans, friends and spectators strolled through the main gates admiring the sculptures on wheels while also being entertained by the black cowboy hat wearing Chingo Bling and famed rhymesters Rodney O and Joe Cooley and Latin hip-hop pioneer Jonny Z. This past year's show was truly the best ever with top quality rides both inside and outside despite the wet weather.
El Larry would like to thank Tecate, Genteclothing.com, and all of the clubs and individuals who braved the rain to make this show the best ever in rides, heart and soul. The brotherhood was deep. Albert DeAlba was impressed. "I can't even remember the last time that I've been to a show like this," he said. "It takes me back to the old school days." You better believe it, baby.
