The Second Annual Summer Dreams Car Show presented by Victory Outreach unites lowriders and the local community.
The Second Annual Summer Dreams 2006 Car Show was on and poppin'! Presented by Victory Outreach Church of Seattle, Washington, and co-hosted by ShowTime Car Club, the August event was a major success in the "Emerald City." The sun shone and the people came from all over, even from as far away as Canada and Portland, Oregon, to participate.
The major event, the Car Hop, was off the Richter scale! Onlookers were astonished when die-hard car club members pushed their cars with hydraulics to the limit. A video of this off-the-hook footage was produced by Victory Outreach Seattle and is available for the world to see at www.voseattle.org. DVDs are also available that include scenes from the 2005 and 2006 Summer Dreams shows.
Car club members from ShowTime, Family Ties, Night Owls, Goodfellas, Lay Low, Aftermath, Rough Riders Seattle, Royal Image, Full XTC, Individual Styles, Underestimated, Life Time and Full House were gathered in unity on this day to promote family values and support the cause of non-violence in our communities; all having a good time with their rides gleaming.
Pastor Manuel Cervantez from Victory Outreach Canada came down and even entered his '50 Chevy to represent all of the "Holy Rollerz." The rides were just as hot as the live music performed by Little Willie G. (formerly of Thee Midnighters), and hip-hop artists Kasual, Doubledge, Cyclone and Smooth-Stone. Kings and Priests made a quick appearance with oldies and BurningBush brought the rock music, and they were jamming!
There was something for everyone on this gorgeous day. The food was great with awesome Mexican and American food, and cotton candy and snowcones for the kids. All kinds of product booths were supplying goods and information, especially with Rent-and-Roll Custom Wheels and Tires reaching the next level by displaying their tires, dubs and phat rims.
Other businesses supporting the cause included Les Schwab Tires, Sounds On Wheels, B&B Auto Parts, Discount Tire Co., N.W. Trophy, Wesco Auto Body Supply, Elephant Super Car Wash, Glory 2 God Records, Azteca, Triple X Root Beer Drive In, www.godstruck.org and Classic Restorations. Stunning airbrush designs were available from two great airbrush participants: Paulette from Street Art & Custom Wheels Airbrush and DZUL Airbrush.
Prize money and trophies were awarded for various categories. The coveted Best Lowrider prize went to Armando Vargas for his '86 Chevy Monte Carlo. Best of Show this year went to J.T. Tumber for his flossy '86 Chevy El Camino. The Single-Pump Hop winner was Shane of Portland, while the Double-Pump Hop winner was "Big Mike" also from Portland.
"It's going to be great to see this event grow, because this really is a good show and the people are positive and encouraging," said Sylvia Villalovos, a local resident and active member of Victory Outreach. "They really do a whole lot by providing all kinds of services to help this community. In the neighborhood of White Center alone, where their church is located, exists the highest high school drop-out rate in all of King County, and their after-school G.A.N.G. youth group meetings are making a big difference. Things are beginning to change for the better in this community."
The Second Annual Summer Dreams 2006 Car Show by Victory Outreach Church of Seattle was fantastic! People kept saying, "We'll be back next year!" Pastor Johnny and Kathy Heredia invite "everybody and their mama" to come out and participate in one way or another in 2007, because it just keeps getting better and better. God bless!
