The annual Lowrider Magazine Super Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, in early October has not only established itself as the most successful car show of its kind, but has also created a benchmark by which other such events can measure their success. But while the number of entries, spectators and vendors may be of equal compare at other shows, when you compare the events side by side, the Lowrider Super Show stands alone, especially when it comes to the uniqueness of our demographic.
The indoor event at Cashman Field Center was sponsored by Quaker State, Rockford Fosgate, Fuze Energia Positiva, Harley-Davidson and CCE Hydraulics draws the top lowrider vehicles, as well as clubs, individuals and fans from around this great nation. Like any lowrider show, the Super Show is truly a family affair, only this one's jam-packed with a crowd of integrated races that come as a family, and usually with their families.
The Super Show is an event like no other and the unification of the lifestyle is seen in the camaraderie of clubs and collectively in the sheer number of lowrider enthusiasts. Since the late '70s, Lowrider has been hosting what's now the longest standing car show circuit produced by any niche automotive title, and the success of the annual Tours is only getting better.
The '06 Lowrider Super Show was no different, and with close to 800 show vehicles on display and some 20,000 spectators, it was one of the best to date. With comfortable temperatures, the climate of the show was probably one of the best yet; it was warm enough to get things started, but cool enough to have you walking the shows for hours without getting too worked up.
With some revamped roll-in procedures and a change of order, Mike Karsting of Lowrider Events was praised for his efforts in making move-in as effortless as possible. Jesse from Uce Car Club in Vegas was the first to be vocal and said, "This was the best roll-in ever. It was smooth and we were out of here in no time. I was really impressed and so were many other car club members."
As with any of our shows, vendor's row brought to the table the best that the industry has to offer. Whether it was die-cast toys, custom laser-cut pieces from Jagster or shirts from Westside Originals, Rhyder's Streetwear or Bighouse, there was something for everyone. As usual, Truucha was in full force launching yet another new DVD title, which captures and chronicles the lowrider lifestyle from every angle.
On the other end of vendor's row, Rockford Fosgate brought out some serious Detroit Muscle as their demo vehicle, a 2007 Cadillac Escalade sporting a system complete with their new line-up of Rockford Fosgate components. How loud was it? Loud enough to have the hair standing up on the back of your neck and the system pushed enough air to give you a hard time breathing. Don't believe us?
