Oak Grove Park in Stockton, California, was the place to be for NorCal lowriders this past October. That's because NorCal Ridahz Car Club (Sacramento chapter) stuffed the park full of candied lowriders that sparkled with chrome and gold for their First Annual Octoberfest Car Show and Car Hop.
With more than 150 entries on display, everyone was able to find something to enjoy. There were 35 clubs in attendance, including Lay M Low, Blvd Classics, Fear None, New Life, Lo Lystics, Independent, Ragz 2 Envy and Inspirations from San Jose. All of the clubs were fighting to take home the 5-foot tall Most Members trophy. Socios C.C., with several chapters rolling in, dusted the competition with a total of 23 plaqued-up cars and tricked-out bicycles to snatch the trophy.
Around 1:30, the area surrounding the hopping pit was getting pretty crowded. The single-pump hop was full to capacity. There was even a mini-truck on airbags that drove up from Fresno to compete with the guys who were juiced. Ricardo from Untouchables C.C. hopped his '79 Chevy Monte Carlo to 35 inches and a fat roll of cash. The double-pump class went to Albert-representing Sly, Slick & Wicked, whose Chevy El Camino climbed to 64 inches. Albert was crowned the 2005 NorCal King Of The Street.
Throughout the day, Frank B. of Magic Sounds Productions out of Modesto spun a mix of the hottest rap and classic oldies to keep everyone kickin' back and enjoying the great weather. As the day wore on, people started to line up to get a plate of the delicious barbecue from Sims Diner. Luckily, the food booth was directly across from the main stage. Ray Dogg and the Corporate Thugs took over and got the crowd going by performing off their soon-to-be-released album. The frenzy continued when Money Quest jumped on stage and hyped the crowd for the trophy presentation. Competition was stiff for the Sweepstakes classes.
NCR would like to thank every car club and individual in attendance, as well as sponsors Take Flight Clothing and Creative Concepts. They invite you to join this year's Octoberfest. Until then, keep those ridahz charged and running.
TrifectaWhere only the most intense audio setups need apply. Lowriders, are you listening?Does the world need yet another car show? Of course! That is, if it's run by Car Audio Magazine and sponsored by Arc Audio, Alpine, Morel, Kicker, Kenwood, Acoustic Edge, Focal, Audison, Pontus, Crossfire Audio, A3, Icon-TV, Extreme Autofest, Carsponsorships.com, SEMA, IAS and Lowrider Magazine.
Trifecta is a little different from your typical show car competition. We gathered some of the top builders and automotive-related designers in the country to judge enthusiast rides. These guys judged not only the overall car in terms of aesthetics and build quality, but also the sound quality of the audio systems. And just for fun (and some bonus points) we measured the SPL (sound pressure level) as well. Something else that's different about Trifecta? The top two winners from each event are invited to be onstage at the SEMA Show for ultimate judging and a big cash prize.
