It was a day for oldies in the realm of music, cars and car shows. For 16 years, the Victory Outreach Lowrider Car Show in July has been a traditional part of the Colorado show scene. The show now makes its home in the heart of Denver at the Invesco Field at Mile High parking lot with the city skyline as a backdrop.There were rows and rows of cars, trucks, bikes and models, as well as games for the kids, raffles and give-aways, plus a heavy local talent lineup on the stage with headliners Rene Rene from Texas and Kings and Priests from California. As usual, pastors Dave and Tom served up the good times.
Clubs, families, friends and spectators were treated to typical Colorado weather, which included windstorms, rain and blazing sun, but for most of the day clouds covered the sky. While show-goers were cool, the paint jobs couldn't gleam as brightly as usual, but, hey, life has its good and bad.Lending their support were Denver Knights, Desirable Ones, Devotions, Duke's, Eastside Lowride, Eternity, Godside Riders, Heavenly Touch, Hellraiser Inc., Just Casual, Kustoms, Low Rollerz, Lugnut, Midwest Riderz, Reminiscence, Rocky Mountain Cruzers, Stylistics, Uce, Unidos Car Clubs and No Limit Bike Club.Connected Custom Audio of Arvada, Colorado, sponsored the SPL (sound pressure level) competition. Sam's Kustom Hydraulics sponsored the hop. In the single-pump competition, Adam Chavez' '85 Olds Cutlass hit 32 inches to bring home the trophy. Robert Morales' '79 Chevy El Camino hit 37 inches in the double-pump exhibition before young Troy Henry closed the show with a crowd pleasing exhibition dance.
Cash prizes and more than 30 different categories kept the crowd interested in the trophy presentation. Best Overall Car went to Jose Martinez' 2000 Honda Civic EX with Best Overall Bike to Juan Flores. First Place Euro went to Jeff Romero's early '90s Honda Accord (Lugnut C.C.), Best Full-Size Truck went to Junior Vega's '94 Chevy GMC (Lugnut), and Best Mini-Truck went to Manuel Garcia's 2001 Chevy S-10 pickup. Top Bomb honors went to Chris Duran's '38 Chevy Deluxe sedan. Radical Lowrider and Lowrider '70s trophies were claimed by Mike and Rebecca Cisneros' '78 Cutlass. Orlando Nieto's '91 Chevy Suburban took the top SUV trophy. The Radical Bike trophy went to Manuel Gutierrez. Modelers John Gurule took Senior honors and Dino Martinez took the Junior category. Rocky Mountain Cruzers won the Club Participation trophy. Judging chores were handled by Imperials Car Club of Southern Colorado.For their continuing support, thanks are due to Sam Henry of Sam's Kustom Hydraulics for his 12-year sponsorship and to Joe Padia of Unique Glass for 10 years of support. Close on their heels with nine years of support are Dragon Lowriders and Denver Car Color. Also deserving of thanks are Ned and Millie Montoya. Mike Cisneros is the most faithful participant, racking up 12 years. Pastor Dave would like to thank all of the clubs who make the show an annual success.
