We caught up with Angel Ibarra this last New Year's Day at the Majestics Car Club annual picnic in Long Beach, California. Since then, Angel has been putting in some time going to several lowrider shows in California and Arizona, and showing his beautiful '60 Impala. Angel's car has it all, from a cool engine compartment to a custom trunk that will make you stop and take a look.
The hydraulic setup was done by Rick Rock and his crew at Low Life Hydraulics in Inglewood, California. Rick had a vision of Angel's trunk and Angel just handed the project over to him. The result is a setup designed to flow with the wings of the car. Rick and Ricardo used four aluminum pumps that share fluid through the whammy tanks. For control, the pump has four Adex squares that control each corner of the car with precision.
With a fully wrapped frame, the Impala can hop and keep up with the best if Angel needs to. Angel chose to have only eight batteries powering the system. The batteries are hidden behind custom Plexiglas and vinyl panels. The Plexiglas inserts show off the intricate tubing that was plumbed to mimic the wings of the '60.
This trunk setup has it all, from music to hydraulics, which are the main focus of the huge trunk. Congratulations to Angel on his "Sky's The Limit" '60. Hopefully, we'll see more of this car in a full feature in the near future.
If you have a trunk that you think is worthy of a spotlight in our Dumps & Bumps section, feel free to e-mail photos and basic information to: saul.vargas@sourceinterlink.com.

While visiting the East Coast, we fell in love with a custom trunk that we spotted in a "big body" Cadillac owned by Dave "Martian" Holtznan of Hollywood, Florida. Dave might have earned his nickname because most of the setups that he works on seem to be from another planet.
The custom trunk in this '96 Cadillac sports several tricks that have people talking. The trunk was built by Dave with help from a few of his friends. The multi-staged project took about six months to complete. The result is a fully molded trunk compartment with custom tubing and paint that highlights the JL Audio sound system. Dave used one 500/1 mono amplifier that pushes the two 12-inch W6 subwoofers that can be seen on the custom package tray. A 300/4 amp was used for the 6x9 midrange speakers found inside of the vehicle and the 61/2-inch speakers located in the trunk.
The 42 feet of tubing helps dress up the two ShowTime Hydraulics aluminum pumps that were installed by the car's owner and Dave's friend "Mopar." The custom trunk panels were prepared and shot with candy paint by fellow club member Keoni to match the exterior of the vehicle. Keoni also pinstriped the molded Cadillac logos on the trunk panels.
The combination works really well together. The car has the best of both worlds-a clean hydraulic setup and an earth-pounding sound system. Congratulations to Dave on another "out of this world" audio and hydro setup.
