Well, it's a new year in the print world. In the calendar sense, for which this issue represents (January '07), it documents a new era. Once your copy of LRM migrates its way into your stack of back issues, the dates, or should I say months, will soon represent their perspective place in time, by the time you come back to it. In the real world of today, the January issue will have gone to press around Halloween and is out for you to read on Thanksgiving-an unusual look into the future by three months. Am I trippin'? Maybe! What a mind-blowing introduction to 2007. I think we're all a bit insane when it comes to keeping track of time. Do this 24 times in a year and you'll be trippin too! That's how many different LRM publications (monthly issues and specials) my staff and I put out. Now try to remember what day it really is!
As we look into 2007, we're gearing up to celebrate another milestone in the existence of Lowrider Magazine-our 30 year anniversary! We at LRM have committed ourselves to getting the lowrider community more involved with the magazine. The development and induction of honorees into the Lowrider Hall Of Fame has been well received. We've opened the doors and shed light on the movers and shakers of the industry that have been up lifted by those who read our publication. This year's HOF banquet ceremonies touched the spirit of all those in attendance and we at LRM thank you all for attending. Check out the coverage inside. We look forward to the 2007 banquet, so reserve your seats early.
What else is in store for the new year, you may be asking? In commemoration of Lowrider Magazine's longevity, the staff and I are putting together a stand-alone, retrospective Special Edition-a look back at the last 30 years and what lowriders have offered to the world. We hope to bring you new insight into the evolution of trends, cars, clubs and individuals that have kept this magazine alive and vibrant, or, as we here at LRM put it, the "Top 30" throughout the years. We will be randomly putting out questions and taking your information from the Lowrider Website forum to help us put this all together. So look out for this special around March (the real March) and send me your ideas.
I think the biggest excitement this year will be... I'll save it for next month's letter. We have the photo session on the Harley-Davidson build coming soon. The biggest news for '07 is that we have been preparing the '62 Chevy Impala simulator; you remember, the car at all of the events where you and the kids can get in and actually hit switches? Without breaking anything while you play! Well, we sent it over to Bowtie Connection for a total restoration, and with the help of Lowrider Products, it's been brought back to life in celebration of LRM's 30-year anniversary in a fitting original anniversary gold paint. And, we're going to give it away! So look out for information on the giveaway. Well, I don't want to give it all away in this one issue, so there will be more to come in the following months. In the meantime, enjoy your Halloween, I mean Thanksgiving, I mean New Years.Peace,Ralph Fuentes
